Great Beer, and Live Entertainment

Posted by andrea2 on 8/15/2007

After a Private Party at Firkin?s sister restaurant; The Tavern, a few of us stopped into Firkin for a night cap. It was a Thursday evening and the place was jamming with Rhythm and Blues. The band was really good, and the beer was mind blowing. After seeing how many impressive draft handles they had, we all decided to stay and enjoy the atmosphere. I hadn?t been to Firkin before that night, but now I can say it is the best place to taste, and drink great beers in the Chicago Land Suburbs. You can get there by catching the Metra Milwaukee District North Line out of Chicago or anywhere in between, because the train stops 1 block away. If you are driving in, you may need a D. D. as they have over 25 draft handles to temp you. The bartenders had fun describing the beers, for those of us in the group who needed assistance. Since we had already eaten dinner, food was not on the agenda. We did take a peek at the menu and there were so many dishes that looked really good. Next time we come out , we?ll have to plan on eating dinner as well.

My go-to restaurant

No matter the time of day or year, Firkin feels like the right place to be. It's cozy and funky decor are welcoming, and the staff is friendly. Along with a huge beer list, Firkin offers food that has never disappointed us in the many times we have eaten there. The goat cheese appetizer and warmed goat cheese salad are so good, my husband and I order them every time. Not to say we haven't sampled much off of the menu. The wahoo tacos are great, and my husband's favorite part about the steak tacos is that they come with fries (yay!). We take our kids sometimes, and while there isn't a menu for them, the staff is kind enough to split their entrees onto two plates, and make them feel welcome. The only downer about this restaurant is there isn't enough seats! GO!

Great music, great food, great beer

Everytime I go the Firkin I am always surprised with something new. Whether it is a new beer, a new food special or the ever changing decor, the Firkin does not disappoint! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and easy going. This is the spot to relax with friends, grab a beer and hear great live music.

Beer mecca with amazing food!

My girlfriend and stopped in here one evening on a tip from a friend who loves beers. They had over 25 on tap and really rare ones like Samichlaus (they're like one of only 20 bars in the U.S.!) and Czecvar. We sat at the bar and the bartender was really knowledgeable and friendly. His food suggestions were right on. It's so nice to find a place that has awesome beers without crappy pub food. Fried asparagus and the pasta was killer. If you live in Lake County and haven't been here there's something wrong with you! Oh, no Budweiser or crappy Corona, that was also nice to see. GO here!
